Cusack Goats

This is your complete guide to your goat familiars.

🐐 Caprine Familiar of Recursive Form

Bound to Charles “Chuck” Cusack

When this familiar is summoned, the air tessellates. Hoofprints appear as clean geometric impressions in dust or snow, each one a perfect iteration of the last. The goat steps into being with a soft clack of LEGO bricks settling into place, its coat patterned in faint, repeating spirals that seem to shift when viewed from the corner of the eye. Its eyes glow with calm, analytical curiosity, pupils tracing invisible equations in the air. A quiet clicking sound follows it, like keys on a keyboard or beads on an abacus.

Familiar Name

Gödel the Goat
(Chuck insists the name is provably appropriate.)

Creature Type

Tiny celestial construct beast (familiar)

Appearance

A compact goat with subtly faceted horns resembling interlocking bricks. Its fur forms algorithmic patterns that repeat at different scales. When still, it looks like sculpture. When moving, it resolves into motion with elegant inevitability.

Languages

Understands all languages spoken by its summoner. Cannot speak, but communicates via precisely timed bleats, hoof taps, and arranging small objects into meaningful patterns.

Familiar Traits

Algorithmic Intuition

Once per long rest, Gödel may assist its summoner or an ally within 30 ft. with a calculation, puzzle, or logical problem. The creature arranges pebbles, chalk marks, or ambient debris into a clear visual proof. The assisted creature gains advantage on one Intelligence-based ability check.

Recursive Defense

When its summoner is targeted by an attack, Gödel may interpose itself in a blur of repeating motion. As a reaction, impose disadvantage on the attack roll. After use, Gödel briefly appears translucent and fractal, as if partially uncompiled. Usable once per short rest.

Constructive Presence

While Gödel is within 10 ft., structures, devices, and magical constructs appear subtly more orderly. Allies gain a +1 bonus to checks involving building, repairing, crafting, or assembling objects.

Actions

Headbutt (Familiar Form Only)
Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target
Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) bludgeoning damage
The impact lands with the satisfying finality of a theorem proven.

Familiar Bond Feature

Proof by Existence

As long as Gödel is present, its summoner cannot be magically forced to accept false sensory input without a saving throw, even in effects that normally bypass such resistance. Illusions shimmer slightly, revealing seams and inconsistencies to careful observation.

Personality

Gödel is patient, stubborn in a principled way, and deeply fond of elegant solutions. It enjoys high places, symmetrical rooms, and watching complex processes unfold. When pleased, it hums softly, a sound like a distant server room or wind passing through hollow bricks.

Dismissal and Recall

When dismissed, Gödel collapses inward into a single perfect point of light, like an equation reduced to its simplest form. When recalled, it unfolds again, step by step, inevitability made wool and horn.

🐐 Caprine Familiar of Signal and Tone

Bound to Jon Cusack

The summoning manifests as a soft electrical hum, followed by a pulsing pink glow that blooms like a stage light warming up before a show. A small goat steps forward, its coat a vivid, unmistakable Hello-Kitty pink, glossy as powder-coated metal. Tiny sigils along its horns flicker like LEDs, cycling rhythmically. Each hoofstep produces a faint click and whirr, as though a relay has just closed somewhere in the world. The air smells faintly of warm circuitry and guitar amps after a long set.

Familiar Name

Rosetta Volt

Creature Type

Tiny fey construct (familiar)

Appearance

A sleek, compact goat with polished, bubblegum-pink fur and smooth, curved horns etched with waveform patterns. A small bow-shaped sigil occasionally manifests above one ear in pink light—not cloth, but pure aesthetic choice. Its tail flicks in time with unheard music.

Stat Block (D&D 5e Compatible)

Languages

Understands Common and the languages of its summoner. Communicates through bleats that modulate in pitch, rhythm, and distortion, unmistakably expressive.

Familiar Traits

Signal Chain Savant

Rosetta Volt intuitively understands cause-and-effect systems. Once per short rest, it can “reorder the signal” of a spell, device, or mechanism within 30 ft.

  • Grant advantage on one spellcasting ability check, Performance check, or tool check involving timing, sequencing, or layered effects.

Tap-Tempo Heartbeat

As a bonus action, Rosetta sets a rhythmic pulse audible only to allies within 15 ft. Until the start of Jon’s next turn, affected allies gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls or ability checks that rely on timing, precision, or repeated actions.

Overdrive Cute

When Rosetta is targeted by an attack, it may flare brilliantly pink, overwhelming the senses. As a reaction, impose disadvantage on the attack roll. Once used, Rosetta’s glow dims to a warm pastel until the end of the next round.

Actions

Static Nudge
Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target
Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) lightning damage
The strike lands with a crisp snap, like a perfectly voiced overdrive kicking in.

Familiar Bond Feature

Tone Is the Truth

While Rosetta Volt is within 10 ft., its summoner has advantage on checks to identify magical items, enchanted devices, or arcane mechanisms that alter, amplify, or distort energy. False enchantments “sound wrong” to Rosetta and emit a faint discordant whine.

Personality

Rosetta Volt is bold, charming, and relentlessly optimistic. It loves attention, bright lights, and moments of performance. It will proudly perch on tables, amplifiers, crates, or shoulders, soaking in admiration. When pleased, it emits a gentle harmonic hum that subtly improves morale.

Dismissal and Recall

When dismissed, Rosetta compresses into a pulsing pink waveform that collapses into silence. When recalled, the waveform expands, resolves into form, and steps forward as though walking out from behind a curtain.

This goat is not a mirror of Chuck’s familiar—it is the counterpoint: expression over proof, tone over theorem, elegance through experience rather than inevitability.

🐐 Caprine Familiar of Unbroken Will

Bound to Mary Catherine “Kitty” Cusack

The summoning is quiet. There is no flash, no spectacle—only the steady sound of breath, the scrape of stone, and the low murmur of voices reading aloud somewhere just beyond hearing. A goat steps forward as if it has always been there. Its coat is a deep, warm white threaded with gold and charcoal, marked by faint scars that glow softly rather than mar. Its horns curve protectively forward, etched with lines resembling tally marks, book spines, and open doors. When it looks at you, it does not judge. It witnesses.

Familiar Name

Persevera

Creature Type

Tiny celestial (familiar)

Appearance

A strong-boned goat with calm, resolute eyes and a presence that fills space without demanding it. Its hooves leave impressions like pressed paper or softened wax. In low light, words briefly appear in its breath—fragments of poetry, lesson titles, names remembered.

Stat Block (D&D 5e Compatible)

Armor Class: 15
Hit Points: 9 (2d4 + 5)
Speed: 30 ft.

Saving Throws

Con +5, Wis +4

Skills

Insight +4

History +3
Persuasion +4

Senses

Darkvision 60 ft.
Passive Perception 14

Languages

Understands all languages known by its summoner and any language spoken within 10 ft. Cannot speak, but communicates through steady eye contact, posture, and meaningful stillness.

Familiar Traits

Witness to Dignity

While Persevera is present, allies within 10 ft. have advantage on saving throws against fear, charm, or effects that would compel despair, submission, or hopelessness. The goat’s presence affirms that effort has meaning, even when outcomes are uncertain.

Labor Without Applause

Once per long rest, when an ally fails an ability check after investing significant time or effort, Persevera may quietly intervene. The check is rerolled with advantage, but no visible sign marks the assistance—only the sense that someone stayed with the work.

Education Is Liberation

Persevera instinctively recognizes barriers that exist to keep knowledge out: locked doors, coded language, bureaucratic wards, social obstacles made magical. The summoner gains advantage on checks to navigate institutions, systems, or magically enforced hierarchies.

Actions

Grounding Ram
Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target
Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) bludgeoning damage
The impact is firm, not cruel—like being stopped before falling further.

Familiar Bond Feature

The Work Continues

If the summoner or an ally within 10 ft. is reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, Persevera emits a low, steady sound like a held note or turning page. That creature immediately gains advantage on its next death saving throw.

Personality

Persevera is tireless, patient, and quietly brave. It prefers early mornings, long corridors, and spaces where people are trying again. It does not seek praise and does not retreat from difficult places. When others argue, Persevera listens. When others leave, Persevera stays.

Dismissal and Recall

When dismissed, Persevera does not vanish abruptly. It walks away, becoming indistinguishable from memory, purpose, and resolve. When recalled, it arrives already steady, as if it never truly left.

Together, these three goats form an accidental trinity:
Proof, Signal, and Endurance.
Gödel solves. Rosetta shines. Persevera carries the weight—and keeps going.

✨ The Cusack Constellation

Proof • Signal • Endurance
A Mythic Familiar Convergence

Overview

The Cusack Constellation is a rare astral phenomenon recognized by arcane scholars, itinerant educators, master artisans, and those who labor unseen within rigid systems. It manifests when three specific familiars exist within the same world, regardless of distance, summoner, or plane of origin.

These familiars are not legendary by power, but by function. Alone, each serves faithfully. Together, they form a complete cycle of creation, expression, and persistence.

The constellation is sometimes referred to in older marginalia as The Three That Persist.

The Three Stars

Gödel, the Upper Star (Proof)
A cool white-blue light, steady and analytical.
Associated with logic, structure, abstraction, and understanding.

Rosetta Volt, the Singing Star (Signal)
A vivid pink star, pulsing faintly in rhythmic intervals.
Associated with translation, innovation, performance, and applied craft.

Persevera, the Anchor Star (Endurance)
A warm gold light, dimmer but unwavering.
Associated with labor, courage, access, and moral stamina.

The stars form an imperfect triangle. No two are aligned without the third.

Recognition in the World

The Cusack Constellation is not claimed by any church, mage college, or royal observatory. It is instead recognized informally:

  • By incarcerated scholars teaching without credit
  • By engineers who build tools before names
  • By artists whose work outlives attribution
  • By students who keep going when systems resist them

It is often said that the constellation is invisible to those who seek ownership.

Constellation Effect (Optional Campaign Rule)

If Gödel, Rosetta Volt, and Persevera all exist in the same campaign world, the following passive effect applies:

Constellation Resonance

Once per session, when the party faces a challenge involving:

  • Logical or informational barriers
  • Creative or technical problem-solving
  • Sustained effort against entrenched systems

The GM may allow one failed roll related to that challenge to be rerolled.
The result must be accepted.
No visible magic accompanies this effect.

Inter-Familiar Behavior

When the three familiars are within sight of one another:

  • Gödel organizes space, objects, or patterns
  • Rosetta Volt animates them with rhythm, energy, or color
  • Persevera remains present until the work is complete

They do not vocalize. They do not compete.
They act with quiet coordination.

Witnesses often report a strong sense of calm competence.

Astral Lore

Fragments of banned texts, marginal notes, and oral traditions attribute the following saying to the constellation:

“If you see the three goats in the sky,
it means the work matters,
even if no one is watching.”

Some scholars believe the constellation does not predict success.
It predicts continuation.

It is never invoked with spectacle.
It is never granted by authority.

It simply appears.
